Q. What Size of Accommodation can I apply for?
A. The size of property for which an applicant will normally be considered are as follows:-
Household Property Size
1 person 1 or 2 bedroom apartment
2 person 2 or 3 bedroom apartment
3 person 3 or 4 bedroom apartment
We will try to ensure that the property is suitable for the applicant in terms of location and facilities. For example, applicants who cannot manage stairs would not be allocated a property above the ground floor where there was no lift provision.
Q. How is my Application Assessed and How are Points Awarded?
A. The assessment is based on the following factors:-
Existing housing conditions
For example, sharing facilities, under occupation, overcrowding, dampness, disrepair etc.
Health problems
Health problems are assessed by staff and awarded one of the following four medical priorities:- Urgent, High, Medium or Low
Personal and Environmental Factors
These can include isolation, difficulties with public transport and harassment for example. Please note in the case of harassment we require evidence from the Police, the Social Work Department, the Local Authority Commission for Racial Equality or some other source.
Homelessness
This would be defined as not having a permanent abode, being threatened by homelessness or having been accepted or declared homeless by the local authority.
Employment
If an applicant is moving to the area as a result of having secured employment, however is unable to travel to the place of employment by public transport (written evidence from the future employer is required).
Q. What Happens Once I submit a Housing Application for Midlothian or Fife?
A. Once your completed application form and any supporting evidence has been received by the Association, you will:-

Receive a letter confirming that your application has been assessed, what points you have been awarded and the areas which you have requested.
